Wrapped from head to toe in COLORBOND® steel Matt in the colour Surfmist®, the couple have infused their corner block with a new level of bold sophistication.
Professional renovators and property developers, Ronnie and Georgia, are back for another shot at the win on The Block this season. And once again they are proving to be strong contenders for the win!
At the start of the season, to level the playing field between the three ‘Fans’ teams and the two experienced ‘Faves’ teams, host Scotty Cam allowed the ‘Fans’ to select which houses the ‘Faves’ were assigned. Feeling intimidated by the styling powerhouse of Georgia, and the expert project management skills of Ronnie, the ‘Fans’ gave the WA-couple House #1 – deeming it the least valuable of them all due to its proximity to a busier road.
Although a strategic move, the Fans didn’t anticipate the couple using the property’s corner location to their advantage and boldly going where no Block team has gone before– a complete wrap of their house in COLORBOND® steel Matt. Even the garage received the wrap treatment to match the rest of the house seamlessly.
Coming into this season, Ronnie and Georgia didn’t have a set style in mind for their house but knew that they wanted to create a beautiful family home with a neutral and organic colour palette to lure as many buyers as possible. After being assigned to House #1, the pair met with The Block Architect Julian Brenchley, and COLORBOND® steel Colour and Design Consultant, Ali Fenton, to discuss the colour palette and design of the exterior of their house.
“Meeting with Ali was very helpful. I’m a very visual person, so actually seeing samples and creating a flat lay was a wonderful way of visualising the complete story” said Georgia of her consultation with Ali. The couple determined that the architectural features of their house with its high ceilings, and abundance of natural light, lent itself perfectly to be wrapped COLORBOND® steel.
After running their ideas past Ali and Julian, the couple selected COLORBOND® steel Matt in the colour Surfmist® - a bold choice that was quickly praised. Says Ali, “This colour choice takes effortless sophistication to a whole new level for this barn style home. We are familiar with dark palette combinations for Scandi-inspired builds, whereas Ronnie and Georgia’s flip to pale transcends the familiar, creating an enveloping sense of calm and spaciousness.”
Big fans of the couple from their previous stint on The Block, Julian was once again impressed by Ronnie and Georgia’s sophisticated choices. “They knew exactly where they wanted to go. We provided the bones of the house, but they really took to task and picked a colour that makes their building stand out.”
The choice of COLORBOND® steel Matt in the colour Surfmist® set the tone for the soft whites, neutrals and organic, natural accents that flow throughout the home, creating a seamless connection from outside to inside. Says Ali, “Beyond colour, we also see connections form between the exterior standing seam style profile, with its broad pans and low ribs, and the repeating parallel lines of the interior feature walls. This textural interplay was not by accident and furthers the seamless lux appeal of the home that they have created. It provides an escape from the everyday both visually and spatially, which so many of us are craving”.
Julian is confident that the couple has made the right selection for their chances on Auction Day. “The colour choice really helps to cement or create a really bold statement on the corner. And if you want a big, bold, beautiful house, you pick a big bold beautiful colour and that’s what they’ve done” he said. “The whole colour palette outside with the recycled brick fence, the COLORBOND® steel Matt Surfmist® cladding, the black window frames, the choices of the landscape elements, the type of trees and the colour in their outdoor room creates a great feeling. They’ve done a fantastic job bringing it altogether - all credit to them” praised Julian.
With only a few weeks left until Auction Day Ronnie and Georgia are looking ahead at what is next for them. “We recently purchased a 100-year-old weatherboard cottage and are really excited to renovate this beauty,” said Georgia. “Our plans include building a very contemporary style extension at the back and we love COLORBOND® steel in a standing seam style profile so much that we are now inspired to use this product for it.”
