The block 2023 - House 5

Colours of The Block 2023 House 5

House 5: A little bit urban, a little bit boho

Our Colour and Design Professional, Kaela Turgeon, has carefully analysed each of the houses on this year’s Block, giving her valuable advice on where the interior design could best end up. House 5 features yet another of the new colours in the COLORBOND® steel range - Bluegum® Matt. It’s a unique colour that Kaela sees as a real plus for this property: “The versatility of the Bluegum® Matt colour helps it sit within an environment that is sandwiched between both urban and coastal areas. Blending of the warmth of the timber and mid cool tones seen in Bluegum® Matt brings a softness to an otherwise more industrial design.”

The matt texture of the COLORBOND® steel Bluegum® Matt complements that of the external brick and timber – Kaela continues this feel inside House 5. “The soft and velvety texture of Bluegum® Matt has been deliberately replicated within the interior through the use of a selection of soft and feminine elements.”

Kaela was also excited by the range of colour combinations that are possible with the new Bluegum® Matt colour – it can be taken in a number of different directions. “The neutrality of the Bluegum® Matt colour works perfectly within this design concept which blends urban aesthetics with a bohemian feel. I love how this colour can lend itself to a coastal theme by using bright whites to bring out its blue undertones or creating a more urban feel by pairing it with warm tones that emphasise its grey undertones.”

When creating the design flatlay for House 5, Kaela took overall inspiration from the softness that Bluegum® Matt evokes. “I wanted to emphasise this by using feminine materials and colour tones through the use of gold fixtures and the striking Rosa Pink marble. This scheme has a harmonious balance between modern urban and laid-back bohemian design which then blends with the repurposed 1950s brick to create a visually striking home.”

And how would Kaela sum up the colour palette she has created for this stylish and inviting property: “Patterned, Graceful, Delicate, Urban, Boho.”

The block 2023 House 3

Part of the challenge this year on The Block, is to work with the architect's exterior scheme from the very start!

The Block 2023 - House 1

House 1’s façade has a modern coastal feel, but with elevated profiles and materials that pay homage to the coastal environment and the home’s history with the repurposed warm toned bricks.

The block 2023 house 2

House 2’s design concept is focused around a modern version of mid-century design both internally and externally. Mixed materials were a huge influence in mid-century design including the use of mixed shapes like linear and curved lines.

House 3's exterior already makes a strong colour statement, with a dark upper level and lighter colours below.

The block 2023 house 4

House 4 is possibly the most “traditional” house on the Block, with the external look highly inspired by the so-called board-and-batten style of modern cottages.
